Quick Hits: Vashti Bunyan, Cloud Seeding, Secondary Modern, Ben Gibbard, Blessed State

  • Cult folk singer-songwriter Vashti Bunyan returned in 2005 with the great Lookaftering, her first LP since her 1970 debut Just Another Diamond Day. Now, Bunyan has announced a third record, Heartleap, to be released October 7 in the U.S. via DiCristina and October 6 in the UK via FatCat. She has also announced a UK fall tour.
  • Cloud Seeding have released their seventh single Kaleidocycle. This free three-track instrumental single features two versions of “Kaleidocycle” and a shorter interlude track called “Selma.” Mixed at Alligator Lady Studio by Cedar Apffel mastered by Paul Gold at Salt Mastering. “Kaleidocycle II” features Kevin Serra on guitars, Cedar Apffel (Natureboy/Two Twins) on bass and keyboards and Rory O’Connor (Tyco/Com Truise/Nitemoves) on drums. The track is dedicated to TNT1 and Will King.
  • Secondary Modern have premiered their colorful new video for “Dart Board Blacklist” via Big Takeover Magazine. Directed by Tyler Horn, the artistic video gets creative with blasts of colors alongside subtle themes, tying the song and film together flawlessly. Brightly strummed guitars intertwine with the colored sand boasting from the amplifiers. “Dart Board Blacklist” is the lead single from the group’s latest effort, Venus Birds, which is out now.
  • Noisey and Budweiser travel the country to speak with world famous artists, including Nelly and Ben Gibbard, as well as locally adored acts, to explore the cities that made them. In Episode One, Noisey heads to Seattle to hang with Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service fame, along with local favorites Tacocat and La Luz.
  • Massachusetts-based melodic hardcore punk outfit Blessed State are streaming their debut LP “Head Space” in its entirety at Brooklyn Vegan. The 8-song album is out next week via Safety Meeting Records (Mick Barr, Acid Mothers Temple) and available now for pre-order. The LP was stamped to vinyl at a thunderous 45 RPM and is limited to 250 ear-shattering copies. Blessed State will be celebrating the release of Head Space with a show on July 9 with Potty Mouth, Oughts and Neoteric at BAR in New Haven, CT.
