Quick Hits: Gruesome, “2776,” Billie Ray Martin, Bailiff, Teenage Bottlerocket

  • Relapse Records have signed of old-school death metal supergroup Gruesome. Featuring guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Dekapitator), drummer Gus Rios (ex-Malevolent Creation), guitarist Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed), and bassist Robin Mazen (Derketa), the group formed in April 2014 as a respectful celebration of the sound of the early Death records. The quartet quickly recorded a demo that gained a lot of buzz for it’s true to form display of late-80s / early 90s Floridian Death Metal. Two songs from the demo can be streamed via their official Bandcamp. The band will be heading to Florida this summer to record their debut full-length which is slated for an early 2015 release via Relapse.
  • Following news of the release of ‘2776,’ a fantastic, star-studded music/comedy album with sales benefitting OneKid OneWorld, comes the opportunity for the world to stream the album in full via SoundCloud in advance of its July 4 release date. The talent list includes over 80 award winning performers including Patton Oswalt, Aimee Mann, Yo La Tengo, Reggie Watts, Neko Case, Will Forte, Ashanti, Andy Richter, Ira Glass, Andrew WK, Aubrey Plaza, Mike Mills, Martha Plimpton, Will Arnett, k.d. lang, Ed Helms, Margaret Cho and many more on over 20 tracks taking satirical aim at every aspect of America – from sports to sex to the media, from religion to war to technology, nothing is spared. ‘2776’ will be released on July 4 with sales benefitting OneKid OneWorld in their efforts to promote education in Kenya and El Salvador.

  • Rise Records has announced the signing of Teenage Bottlerocket. Forming in 2001, this Laramie, WY quartet is currently on the Vans Warped Tour spreading their pop-punk sounds across America. After Warped Tour they plan to write their debut Rise release, their 6th proper full length, and then head down the highway to the Blasting Room and record their album with Bill Stevenson producing (Descendents, Rise Against, Hot Water Music).
