Local H to Tour with Filter and Helmet This Summer

Two-man Chicago band Local H has confirmed a summer tour, playing most dates with Filter and Helmet. The band has also announced plans for The Team EP, a four-song CD that will be sold exclusively at shows. Additionally, Local H will play the main stage at the WKQX Piqniq at Chicago’s First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre at Tinley Park on August 29th.

Local H has spent most of 2014 on the road, introducing fans to new drummer, Ryan Harding, with coast-to-coast touring. Harding, who had been playing in Minneapolis bands Left Brain Heart and Bruder, relocated to Chicago and joined Local H late last year.

“Usually we take the summers off to barbecue and go to festivals to watch other people do their job,” explains Local H frontman Scott Lucas. “But we’re still pumped up from our last tour and this tour looked like it would be too much fun to miss. Till the wheels come off, I guess.”

Local H has written several new songs since Harding came on board, which they’ve been testing out live to great response. In between stints on the road this year, they are recording a string of singles, a move that breaks away from their usual concept album approach. They are touring in support of Harding’s first recordings with the band: an ode to how awful people are, called “The Misanthrope,” and a heavy, rocking reinterpretation of Lorde’s “Team.” Both of those tracks and two other new songs — “One of Us” and “Clap, You Philistines!” — round out The Team EP, which fans will be able to purchase directly from Lucas, who still mans the merchandise booth after shows.

“It was never meant to be an official release,” states Lucas. “You can think of it as a tour memento or you can think of it as a taste of things to come.”

JBTV recently premiered a live performance online of “The Misanthrope” and two other songs the band performed during their hour-long set for the show. It will air this weekend in Chicago on WJYS and will air nationally next month.

In addition to the Lorde cover and a couple of new songs, on this tour fans can expect to hear the revamped line-up’s take on Local H classics like “Bound for the Floor” and “All the Kids Are Right” and on deeper cuts from their considerable catalog, as well as songs from the band’s most recent releases — Hallelujah! I’m a Bum (2012) and The Another February EP (2013).
